Russell Sattler, President of United Retek, was the first to recognize the extraordinary benefits of utilizing properly formulated asphalt emulsions, as part of a solidification and stabilization approach, in the treatment and recycling of contaminated soils. In 1987, he established United Retek, pioneering an innovative new approach to on-site contaminated soil recycling, based on the use of a wide range of chemicals, reagents and co-products to achieve rapid site specific results.
Since then United Retek has developed a wide array of technologies and techniques to remediate the full range of hazardous soils, as well as processes able to recover industrial wastes and inferior soils such as dredge material and lagoon sludges. This body of research and practical field experience is now encompassed in our Retek Process technology.
United Retek Corporate Headquarters are located in Medway, Massachusetts. The firm's senior professional staff offer more than thirty-five years experience in environmental engineering; twenty years in remedial contracting; and over fifty years of project management experience.
Since the 1980s, United Retek has become one of the leading providers of soil remediation services for industrial, commercial and government clients. In the industrialized North-east we have assisted with cleanup efforts at sites throughout New England, New York, New Jersey, and now offer services across all States and into world markets.
The United States was the first country in the world to address contaminated land issues. This resulted in Legislation such as RECRA and the Superfund laws in the 70’s and 80’s. In 2004 the European Union introduced similar legislation when it introduced the new Landfill regulations which banned the transportation and land-filling of contaminated soils without prior treatment. Ian Hadfield, who joined United Retek in 2000, introduced the Retek Process in the UK and Europe. Today our technology has been successfully used on dozens of projects in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It has been scrutinised, approved, and licensed by the UK Environment Agency.
In 2008, the Retek Process was licensed to a newly formed on-site remediation specialist, Environmental Recovery Ltd who are now the sole provider of these services in the UK.
Interest in the Retek Process continues from other European countries and in 2009 we licensed the Retek Process in the Republic of Ireland through United Retek (Ireland) Ltd.
We are currently entering into similar relationships with companies in China, Kuwait, and Israel.
So, whether the project is in the USA or abroad, whether it is a government location, a utility company site or an inner city development, the long term experience and expertise of United Retek staff and partners can make a difference. Why not call now and find out how we can help – we’ll be happy to hear from you.
